IAMFORGIVEN

story

We had been planning this night to go downtown Auckland, walk around and to tell people the good news with the young adults group from the church.  The nerves were rising, people were excited but scared at the same time, because they really didn’t know what to expect.  So we went down and prayed that God would bring us the right people.

Right away we jumped into conversations about God and what they believed and this lead to an amazing night of sharing our faith and watching peoples lives changed by hearing the gospel for the first time.  But one situation really stood out. We  were walking down the street looking for opportunities and there was a girl, early 20’s sitting there asking people for money.  She didn’t look like she had been on the streets for long.  But I believe the Holy Spirit said stop and talk with her about how she ended up on the street and just listen to her life story.

So that is what we did, I stopped and not knowing what to say just opened my mouth,  and words started to come out… “Hey how are you doing?  Just curious if you are living on the streets?”  She said she wasn’t but ending up out there because she didn’t have a job.  So we continued to talk and she just fully opened up to us about how she had 3 children that had been taken away from her and how she was recently divorced and just didn’t know what to do.  It seemed like nothing in life was going her way and she was just hopeless.

So not trying to push anything, we sat with her and just listened more about her life.  The more she would talk the more compassion I had for her and started to feel for her and her situation.  I couldn’t believe all the stuff she had been through.  So she asked about why we were out there doing what we were doing and that lead to being able to share the good news with her about Jesus Christ.  It was amazing to watch her face change after she heard about the Hope of Jesus Christ.  You could see that she wanted to follow God, but just felt all alone with nobody to help her.

So I encouraged her to start reading the word of God, and spend time with Him because like how she wanted to spend time with her babies, God wanted to spend time with her.  She said “You are right.”   So we prayed for her and invited her to come be part of our church family where we can show her the love of Christ.  So pray she shows up 🙂

You never know what opportunities you miss if you quickly judge somebody situation and don’t hear their story.
