emotionalism
I have mention before in previous notes that I am some what of a hopeless romantic chasing after an emotional high that will provide a feeling of great joy.  God has made us in a way that allows us to experience life with emotions.  After all, life would be pretty boring if we didn’t experience happiness, sadness, fear, and all the other emotions that come with being human.

The problem is that we start chasing after emotionalism instead of the one who gave us the emotions.  When we experience something that we like, something that gives a good feeling, we continue to do it.  When it stops giving us that emotional high we move on to something else that will provide the same feeling or better.  Throughout life we chase these things that make us feel good but in all reality, emotionalism will never satisfy because it puts all the focus on us and takes all the focus away from God.

Even though I love the feeling of the Holy Spirit in my life and He motivates me to worship God even more, its not about the feelings that I experience but my obedience in exalting Christ as Lord.  We are all guilty of saying I don’t like this or that, but we really need to check our heart and remember who it is that gave us emotions to experience, and find a way to use those for our Creator.  Emotions are not bad unless it is the emotion itself that we are chasing after.  Emotionalism can be a form of Idolatry (Putting them before God).

Do you worship God to get a good feeling?  Or because even despite our existence, He deserves all praise?

Psalm 95:6

Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the LORD our Maker;
