We all had a just finished playing a game of cards so I picked up the deck to try something that I wasn’t sure would even work.  I wanted to totally mess with my roommate and do something they had never ever ever ever seen before.  I started to shuffle the cards.. Mixed them up real good too.  Shuffle, Shuffle, Bridge, push together, over and over again.

I looked right at my roommate and said pick a card, any card.  He looked at me ready for my tricks and games to see if he could figure out what I was about to do.  So watching me closely… I said “show everybody your card.”  So he did.  Then I asked him to show me the card.  And he hesitated as if I totally was going to ruin this amazing trick by knowing what the card was.  I said “It’s ok that I see the card.”

He showed me the card and I said.. “ok we have the 4 of spades”… He looked at me like you silly goose, “it’s the 4 of clubs”.  Me feeling like an idiot because I don’t know the different symbols on the cards, I just played it off and said.. “Oh you’re right, you have picked the 4 of clubs.”

At this point he was watching my hands intently to make sure that I didn’t pull any slight of hand stuff.  So I shuffled the cards that I had in my hand and then spread them out nice and even so that he wouldn’t see anything that looks like a trick.  Then told him “Put the 4 of clubs anywhere in the pile.”

So he did, but had this look as if I had this crazy magic trick that I was about to pull off.  To confuse him even more I started to shuffle the cards.  Shuffle, Shuffle, Bridge, push the cards together, over and over again to a point of no possible way of knowing where his card went.

Ok, what do I do next, I have every bodies attention now and I really don’t have any plan to pull that card out of his pocket, or find it on his chair, or any other slight of hand stuff.  So I thought, “I am just going to pray that he would pick the 4 of clubs”.  I finished shuffling and then looked right at him and said pick your card.  He looked at me with hesitation and said he didn’t want to do it, so I turned to another friend that was standing there and said go ahead and pick the card.

There was a pause… I had no idea what to expect because to be honest, I didn’t have a clue where the 4 of clubs was.  I had shuffled it so deep in the mix that it could have been 1 of 52 cards.  So here we go… Pick the card.  She reaches down to pick out a card and just blown away by her look, I knew that God had answered my prayer.

It was the 4 of Clubs!

I just turned around and walked out of the room just amazed at what had just happened leaving them in total confusion of what just happened.  I let them be for a minute to try and figure it out and when I walked back in they had just seen the best card trick ever!  So I had to let them in on a little secret.  “I had no idea what I was doing and it was as simple as God answering my prayer.”

That is a lot like life;  we have no idea what to expect and the only thing we can do is have faith in God to provide our every need.  Trust Him in all things!
